Software that can read information, make decisions, and take actions automatically on your behalf — without needing you to be in the loop for every step.
An AI agent is software that combines a language model (like GPT or Claude) with the ability to do things — send emails, update records, search the web, call an API.
The “agent” part is what makes it different from a chatbot. A chatbot responds to you. An agent acts on the world.
Example: An email triage agent reads your inbox every morning, categorises messages by urgency, drafts responses to routine enquiries, and flags anything that needs your personal attention. You come in and review a handful of things instead of fifty.
